Usually it is required to stop eating and drinking 10-12 hours prior the blood test. Only one cup of water is tolerable.
Also note that the last meal before the fast should be light: no fried or fatty foods.

What are the steps to be taken if abnormal results show up in the final test report? Should they be repeated?

In some cases a slight change in the diet might be the solution but in other cases it requires a medical treatment. Repeating period can go from one week to 3 months depending on the abnormality and its severeness.
